Here is a typical question: How do I learn Italian? Is it easy or not?
First of all, Italian pronunciation is definitely one of the easiest ones as you just pronounce what you read. Once you know the sound of the vowels you won't have many problems of reading.
In general, based on my experience I see that most students find the language quite easy and after 5 or 6 lessons they are actually able to have some kind of conversations with questions and reply. Usually these people know a bit of French or Spanish and see the connections with Italian.
Other students find the first 3 or 4 lessons quite hard, however then they get used to the structure and start speaking and get more confident quite soon. Then I see other students who think the best way is to translate full sentences directly from the internet without putting an effort into it; this isn't useful because if we don't try to do the things by ourselves our brain doesn't memorise the grammar patterns and the vocabulary.
In my classes I always promote interaction because I'm certain that, in order to improve your language, one has to make mistakes (and a lot of mistakes), understand them and get more confident. Lots of people think that making a mistake is a disaster, simply because this is the way they've been told since primary school. My main recommendation is actually the opposite: Don't worry about making mistakes or saying something wrong, because this is an essential part of the process. Enjoy the experience of speaking a new language by applying the rules seen in class and don't get too adventurous trying to say something extremely complicated. In other words: Don't rush!
As we say in Italy :"Piano piano"/"Slowly slowly" is the most relaxing and easy way to learn Italian or any other language.
Also, Italian and english have more in common than you think. You can easily recognise many words, for example : importante- famoso- intelligente- celebre- teatro- cinema- musica- telefono- televisore- animale, and many many others! Try to use words that you know and work out a context around them.
Italian uses masculine and femminine words ( there's no neutral) and in my opinion it's always important to focus on the ending of the words as they give you all the information about it and will make you able to make the plural.
Let's remember that all Italian adjectives, nouns and verbs end in vowels, get familiar with them. The ending of the words is fundamental for verbs too, in order to understand who we are talking about.
